 Mercedes-Benz is the world's first Car Manufacturer to X-ray a Crash TestThe technical sensation begins with a very loud bang. At 60 km/h, a device with a crash barrier rams into the orange C-Class saloon and hits it full on the side. Crash tests are always something special - even for the experts. But the really spectacular part of this side impact test is located in a frame on the hall ceiling above the vehicle: A linear accelerator serves as an X-ray camera. Together with Fraunhofer EMI in Freiburg, Mercedes-Benz has now carried out the world's first X-ray crash with a real car. On board was one SID-IIs dummy on the left-hand side facing the impact. This is a test specimen with a female anatomy, specially designed for side impact tests.

DRI has been awarded five National Highway Traffic Safety Administration vehicle safety research contracts. The aim is to advance the safe deployment of vehicle crash avoidance technologies, including ADAS and automated driving systems, in particular those that respond to specific crash imminent situations.
Euro NCAP is teaming up with IVEX for a world s first on-road robustness test and assessment initiative. The collaboration aims to develop the protocols for on-road robustness evaluation for active safety systems in passenger cars which will be in vigour starting in 2026.
NHTSA seeks public comment on the Office of Vehicle Safety Compliance (OVSC) laboratory test procedure (TP) number TP-213-11, specifically relating to FMVSS No. 213a, Child restraint systems-side impact protection. This TP, prepared for the limited purpose of use by contracted independent laboratories conducting tests for NHTSA, is an agency guidance document intended for use by NHTSA test contractors.
When it comes to vehicle safety, much progress has been made over the last two decades by enacting enhanced regulations and extensive testing through governing bodies and consumer testing programs to ensure the well-being of road-users. However, to reduce road traffic deaths by 50 % by 2030, much work is still to be done. One element of achieving this global goal is to reduce the risk of injuries to vehicle occupants.

In pursuit of scientific advancements, FORVIA's Clarion Electronics business group will harness its expertise and research activities in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for automotive applications, with a focus on data fusion and image processing.
In around four months the first prototype of Austria's largest automated city bus will be ready for test operation. But the hardware and software that will later be used in the full electric vehicle can already be tested in practical operation. This is made possible by SPiDER, a HiL platform that behaves like the future bus. VIRTUAL VEHICLE, Mission Embedded and ALP.Lab used this opportunity to test teleoperated driving with unrestricted 360-degree real-time view.
Luxoft have teamed up with MicroVision to set the foundation for a new generation of testing and simulation environments. Modern advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous drive (AD) applications rely on algorithms that must be tested and validated using ground truth (GT) data. MicroVision develop automotive lidar sensors and provide automated generation of high-quality GT data.
The new PEUGEOT Panoramic i-Cockpit has impressed the readers of AUTO BILD and COMPUTER BILD in Germany and received a Connected Car Award 2023 in the "Entertainment" category. The winners will be presented in issues 50/23 of AUTO BILD and 1/24 of COMPUTER BILD. The PEUGEOT Panoramic i-Cockpit was introduced for the first time on the new PEUGEOT E-3008.
Powered two-wheelers (PTWs) are a major concern in road safety. Despite being a small portion of road users, PTWs have the highest fatality rate among vulnerable road users. They are 9 to 30 times more likely to be killed in a traffic crash than drivers. In Europe, road accident numbers are decreasing, but the decrease is not as strong for accidents involving PTWs compared to accidents involving other vehicles.
Preliminary analysis from the National Safety Council shows motor vehicle fatalities in the United States remain at a devastatingly high level, as an estimated 44,450 people died in traffic crashes in 2023. While it marks a 4 % decline from 2022, compared to pre-pandemic 2019, it s a 13.6 % uptick, further demonstrating the seriousness of this public health crisis.
