Behind the curtain of ANCAP SAFETY's official collision avoidance testing, an important program of research tests is being undertaken to shine a light on the real-world driver experience and usability of lane support systems. ANCAP has embarked on a new research project designed to intentionally capture the steering force, intervention timing, and correction severity of Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK) on vehicles already star rated.
The research project aimed to develop a comprehensive safety system for highly automated vehicles. To this end, an innovative environment sensor system was developed that can provide precise data about other road users even shortly before a collision and reliably recognize a pre-crash situation, especially in poor light and weather conditions.
FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel announced that the Commission will vote on final rules that will improve transportation safety and mobility by integrating advanced communications technologies into vehicles and infrastructure. The rules would allow in-vehicle and roadside units to operate cellular-vehicle- to-everything (C-V2X) technology in the 5.9 GHz spectrum dedicated to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). 
Modern, automated driver assistance systems require a large number of sensors in order to precisely analyze the vehicle's environment and derive safe driving maneuvers. To further advance the development of these ADAS and AD solutions, the technology group has developed the cloud-based and AI-enabled validation service ZF Annotate.
The Ohio General Assembly approved a $25 million investment in HB 2 to help make improvements at the Transportation Research Center Inc., including renovation of its 25,000-square-foot Impact Laboratory. Research conducted at this facility has played a major role in advancing highway safety and saving lives over its 50-year history.
Seven out of eight small SUVs tested performed well in the IIHS rear crash prevention evaluation, which addresses low-speed backing crashes that account for a large portion of insurance claims. The Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Mitsubishi Outlander and Subaru Forester earn the highest rating of superior, while the Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4 and Volkswagen Taos are rated advanced. The Hyundai Tucson earns a basic rating.
Global NCAP's new #SaferCarsForAfrica crash results reveal a disappointing two star occupant safety rating for the Kia Pegas and Renault Triber and only one star for the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Global NCAP's crash test protocols assess frontal and side impact protection for all models, as well as Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Pedestrian protection and side pole impact protection assessments are required for vehicles scoring the highest star ratings.
BETA CAE Systems China recently hosted a highly successful "2024 Technical Exchange
Workshop" at the Autoliv China R&D Center. This event significantly strengthened the
collaborative bonds between these two industry leaders, both dedicated to advancing
automotive safety through state-of-the-art simulation technologies.
Innoviz Technologies announced the successful completion of a winter test for its InnovizTwo LiDAR and Perception Software, a key engineering and R&D achievement. Innoviz uses winter tests to measure and scrutinize the Company's products for thousands of kilometers. The data and insights accumulated are used to improve Innoviz's proprietary AI-backed software and hardware solutions.
Vector announces a collaboration with QNX, a business unit of BlackBerry Limited, that will pave the way to Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) D for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV). Within the collaboration, Vector provides a QNX operating system (OS) integration, the corresponding interface and a safety case.
Imagine driving through a tunnel in an autonomous vehicle, but unbeknownst to you, a crash has stopped traffic up ahead. Normally, you d need to rely on the car in front of you to know you should start braking. But what if your vehicle could see around the car ahead and apply the brakes even sooner? Researchers from MIT and Meta have developed a computer vision technique that could someday enable an autonomous vehicle to do just that.
