 ZF LIFETEC enhances Occupant Protection through innovative Test MethodsWhen accelerations of more than 50 g tug at dummies, test sleds are accelerated from zero to one hundred in an instant to generate data and to validate new designs and products with physical and virtual tests, and steering wheels, seat belts and even airbags are tortured in endurance testing equipment, it doesn't necessarily sound safe - but it does ensure greater safety. At least when the tests take place in one of the more than 20 test centers or in the three central ZF LIFETEC Tech Centers in Europe, North America and Asia.

The first scheme of its type for the sector, the programme is designed to address the disproportionate number of truck fatalities across Europe where trucks represent only 3 % of vehicles on Europe s roads but are involved in almost 15 % of all EU road fatalities. The ratings will incentivise good safety performance, allow optimisation of operational safety and cost, and accelerate regulatory efforts to improve truck safety. The aim is to progress towards best practice safety, rather than just meeting minimum standards.
The UK is poised to make a significant contribution to slashing casualty numbers in car accidents with the opening of a new crash facility at the home of Europe's leading automotive engineering consultancy, HORIBA MIRA. It is the first facility in the UK capable of testing frontal car-to-car impacts - one of the main contributors to death and injury on the roads.
UK car manufacturer JLR is driving ahead with an initiative to increase driver awareness of critical advanced driving assistance (ADAS) systems, after its survey found many drivers are not clear about the technologies. Latest vehicles are highly technologically advanced and now incorporate more ADAS features than ever before as standard, to support the driver, yet a JLR survey found 41 per cent of respondents are not clear what their ADAS systems do.

Applus+ IDIADA has extended the scope of activities with the German Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) as a Technical Service for E1 approvals, in accordance with both national and EU/ECE Regulations. This designation authorizes IDIADA Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH to provide essential support to clients with issues related to E1, which follows Germany s national road safety law, known as StVZO.

With its road hazard service, Bosch provides drivers with real-time information about potential hazards en route, thereby considerably reducing the risk of accidents. Since June 2024, the Bosch road hazard service has been in use millions of times over in Europe in the car fleet of a leading German automaker.
Subaru Corporation has installed a local sub-6 5G standalone (SA) network covering the entire circuit at Bifuka Proving Ground in the Subaru R&E Center (Hokkaido, Japan), and begun trialing cooperative driving automation. Chiefly tasked with overseeing advanced research, the Subaru R&E Center has previously worked on automated driving systems using mobile communications.
Thatcham Research, the UK's only not-for-profit automotive risk intelligence company, is asking the new Government to address seven key areas of concern within the automotive sector. Jonathan Hewett, Chief Executive at Thatcham Research, said: "The UK's automotive industry faces a number of challenges which the new Government must resolve if it is to deliver safe, secure and sustainable mobility.

IAV lumits, a cloud-based service, makes it possible for the first time to check messages in so-called Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems quickly and easily for their conformity. This development closes a critical gap in communication between vehicles and the transport infrastructure by ensuring that the messages exchanged comply with applicable standards and are understood by all participants.
In a little under a year, DriveOhio's Rural Automated Driving Systems (ADS) project collected nearly 60 terabytes of data that will help define future technology needs for automated vehicles in rural environments. While automated driving systems have the potential to dramatically improve roadway safety, data shows that these systems must be refined to maximize that potential in rural areas.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released its early estimates of traffic fatalities for the first half of 2024, estimating that traffic fatalities declined for the ninth straight quarter. An estimated 18,720 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes, a decrease of about 3.2 % as compared to 19,330 fatalities projected to have occurred in the first half of 2023. Fatalities declined in both the first and second quarters of 2024.
