Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. continues its legacy of building safe SUVs with another significant milestone. Thar ROXX, XUV 3XO, and XUV400 have all secured the coveted 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP), reinforcing Mahindra's long-standing commitment to engineering SUVs that prioritise occupant safety while delivering exceptional performance and cutting-edge technology.
The safe use of lithium-ion batteries, such as those used in electric vehicles and stationary energy storage systems, critically depends on condition monitoring and early fault detection. Failures in individual battery cells can lead to serious issues, including fires. To mitigate these risks, researchers at TU Darmstadt and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed novel methods for battery analysis.
In November 2024, three new cars went through Euro NCAP s rigorous testing: the sporty electric SUV Cupra Tavascan, the SUV MG HS and the MPV Ford Tourneo Courier. The two SUVs achieve Euro NCAP s top rating of five stars. Ford s new MPV achieves a disappointing three stars but also comes with a commitment from the company to improve.
In 2023, over 40,000 people lost their lives on U.S. roadways, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Recognizing how dangerous roadways have become and that SUVs, vans and pickup trucks account for nearly 75% of vehicles produced today, the Road to Zero Coalition released a new report, 
General Motors' Side Bicyclist Alert is a technology designed to help make drivers aware of cyclists detected in a vehicle s side blind zone, or those rapidly approaching the side blind zone during a lane-change maneuver. Side Bicyclist Alert, as well as Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, come standard on a variety of 2025 model year and newer GM vehicles, including the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox and Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado EV.
With the recent addition of piezoelectric sensor technology to its product portfolio, ASC Sensors is now able to offer an even broader range of inertial sensor solutions. Through a brand-new collaboration with Metra Mess- und Frequenztechnik (MMF) signed in October, 2024, the German sensor specialist will be able to offer MMF s tried and tested IEPE (Integrated Electronics Piezo-Electric) technology in tailormade solutions for customers in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
The MIPI Alliance, an international organization that develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries, today announced the release of the MIPI Camera Security Framework, which defines a flexible approach to add end-to-end security to automotive applications that leverage the MIPI Camera Serial Interface 2 (CSI-2) interface specification.
TÜV SÜD is strengthening its global position in the battery technology industry by acquiring all remaining shares in TÜV SÜD Battery Testing GmbH. The acquisition will drive the company s course for further growth and innovation leadership. A 30 percent stake in TÜV SÜD Battery Testing GmbH previously held by LION Smart GmbH, a subsidiary of LION E-Mobility AG, has been acquired in full by TÜV SÜD, which is now sole owner.
Traffic light or light poles, traffic signs or bollards - they all often have an important function on roads and in their surrounding space. "At the same time, however, they can present obstacles that cause accidents or worsen the consequences of accidents", warns DEKRA accident researcher Markus Egelhaaf. For the DEKRA Road Safety Report 2024, "Traffic Environments for People", a cargo bike underwent two crash tests, one against a flexible post and the other against a rigid one. The effects could hardly have been more different.
Honda is building on its "Safety For Everyone" approach by expanding its focus beyond advanced safety and driver assistive technologies to include efforts to augment driver awareness, modify driver behavior and improve the traffic safety ecosystem by working with government, industry and community partners. The company's goal is to achieve zero traffic collision fatalities involving its automobiles and motorcycles by 2050, including older models still on the road.
