Christoph Lauterwasser was elected as the new Secretary General by the members of the international research organisation RCAR (formerly the Research Council for Automobile Repairs) in summer 2024. He succeeded Robert McDonald from Sydney, Australia, in January 2025.

Technology to prevent thermal runaway in electric vehicles is being advanced. Hyundai Mobis announced that it had succeeded in developing a new technology that can extinguish a fire immediately by spraying a fire extinguishing agent when a battery cell catches fire. This is the first technology that can prevent thermal runaway by preventing heat from being transferred to adjacent cells.
The focus of the meeting organised by the AWARE Centre was the exchange with Professor Anderson Ribeiro Correia, President of the IPT. Discussions centred on the establishment of a new institute for automotive research with a focus on vehicle dynamics, vehicle safety and automated driving. The CARISSMA of the THI, the nationwide control centre for vehicle safety, is regarded as a pioneering model. Other areas of cooperation were also discussed.
