 IIHS launches Commercial Vehicle Safety ProgramThe Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is releasing results of its first evaluations of commercial vehicles. Four of the first nine heavy-duty pickups and cargo vans to be assessed come with a suite of features that IIHS considers essential for driver protection - including standard front and side airbags, advanced seat belt technology and effective seat belt reminders.

As vehicle technologies continue to evolve beyond conventional safety systems, intelligent driving functions are becoming an increasingly important component of modern mobility. To support the safe deployment of these technologies and provide greater transparency to consumers, ASEAN NCAP is proud to introduce the ASEAN NCAP Beyond Rating: Intelligent Vehicle Advanced Safety Assessment (IVASA) programme.
For decades, vehicle safety has largely been developed and evaluated using models representing an average male occupant. But people come in different shapes and sizes, and safety systems need to protect everyone. The new project Viva Plus aims to improve road safety by enabling sex-neutral virtual testing in vehicle safety development.
More trucks are safer than ever before. That s the finding from Euro NCAP's testing of seven new trucks in the Regional Distribution category, where five were awarded the maximum five-star safety rating and all were judged to be CitySafe. An additional five-star rating and CitySafe label was achieved by a vehicle in the Utility sector.

The outgoing version of the Toyota Starlet has received a zero star rating for adult occupant protection in Global NCAP’s #SaferCarsforAfrica test results. Child occupant protection was rated as three stars. Manufactured in India, and one of the most popular cars sold in South Africa, the Starlet was equipped with driver and passenger frontal airbags and Electronic Stability Control as standard. The model offered no side head protection airbags.
In ADAS validation, target realism isn t a nice to have; it is a safety requirement. Standards such as ISO 19206 specify the sensor and physical characteristics that vulnerable road user (VRU) targets must meet. Euro NCAP protocols rely on that realism to ensure tests are reproducible and comparable. UNECE regulations establish global expectations for AEB performance.
Automated vehicles have been steadily rolling out in U.S. cities, but scaled deployment still faces a daunting challenge: proving the technology can safely navigate the complexity of real-world driving.
