The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is releasing results of its first evaluations of commercial vehicles. Four of the first nine heavy-duty pickups and cargo vans to be assessed come with a suite of features that IIHS considers essential for driver protection - including standard front and side airbags, advanced seat belt technology and effective seat belt reminders.

As vehicle technologies continue to evolve beyond conventional safety systems, intelligent driving functions are becoming an increasingly important component of modern mobility. To support the safe deployment of these technologies and provide greater transparency to consumers, ASEAN NCAP is proud to introduce the ASEAN NCAP Beyond Rating: Intelligent Vehicle Advanced Safety Assessment (IVASA) programme.

But people come in different shapes and sizes, and safety systems need to protect everyone. The new project Viva Plus aims to improve road safety by enabling sex-neutral virtual testing in vehicle safety development.

However, its decisions are based on data and models and can be unpredictable in individual cases. This is precisely where a new research initiative at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt comes in: Under the title "Beyond Validation AI", the university is investigating how uncertainties in AI systems can be systematically recorded and utilised for safe automated driving.

Standards such as ISO 19206 specify the sensor and physical characteristics that vulnerable road user (VRU) targets must meet. Euro NCAP protocols rely on that realism to ensure tests are reproducible and comparable. UNECE regulations establish global expectations for AEB performance.
